According to the report from Tech Crunch a leaked document Facebook sent to some of its biggest advertisers reveals that Facebook will launch ads within Messenger in Q2 2016.
The document, obtained by TechCrunch but kept private to protect its verified source, says businesses will be able to send ads as messages to people who previously initiated a chat thread with that company. To prepare, the document recommends that businesses get consumers to start message threads with them now so they’ll be able to send them ads when the feature launches.
The ads in Messenger will be sent as messages from brands to users, but only if the customer has initiated a direct message with that brand in the past. This caveat should drastically reduce spam and annoyance, as the ads will only come from brands that customers have previously shown very clear interest in.
Messenger is the primary way to communicate with friends and, more importantly, acquaintances who users may not have phone numbers for, but are friends with on Facebook.
