Fingerprint security on smartphones these days are pretty common, which is why it wasn’t a surprise to see the LG V10 include that feature in their phone. However it seems that recently, it has been discovered that the LG V10 might have a security vulnerability for its fingerprint scanner, in which non-authorized users will be able to add their fingerprints to the list.
Basically for the majority of devices out there, if you want to add a new fingerprint to the list of approved fingerprints, you will have to enter your passcode first. This is to ensure that you are indeed the owner of the phone. However it seems that with the LG V10, users can bypass this step and add their fingerprints without the owner knowing.
Of course there are some caveats, like how the phone needs to be unlocked first. Secondly, the owner needs to be using a third-party launcher with an activity shortcut for adding fingerprints in which the need for a passcode can be bypassed. What this means is that this issue probably isn’t as easy to pull off as you might think, which is the upside of the issue.
