The “Galaxy S7” is just around the corner and Samsung fans are starting to get some of their first glimpses what could be the next smartphone out of the South Korean electronics giant. Just don’t expect a major case redesign -- photos leaked by Weibo user Webthinker123, show a Galaxy handset that looks mostly similar to the Galaxy S6 -- the difference being a slightly more rounded edges compared to its predecessor.
But the inside of the smartphone is expected to come with a number of upgrades. While a new processor is likely on the list, the highlight feature is anticipated to be iPhone 6S-like pressure sensitive display, according to the Wall Street Journal. The handset may also come with a retina scanner, similar to the one found in Microsoft’s Lumia 950 and 950 XL.

Samsung is also expected to modernize the data and charging ports for the Galaxy S7 by switching to the reversible USB type-C connector, the same connector found in the 12-inch Apple MacBook and OnePlus Two. The move to the new port would allow Samsung to deliver a full day’s charge in 30 minutes, according to sources speaking to the Wall Street Journal. What’s also expected to return to the smartphone is a removable storage slot -- which disappeared in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy lineup in 2015. This will allow Galaxy S7 owners to load the smartphone with more room for digital files beyond the built-in flash memory chips.
While Samsung hasn’t officially said a word about its handsets, they’re expected to be unveiled sometime in February in conjunction with the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona.
